Questions
How long have you been
Nine wonderful years.
Favorite place to climb and with whom?
I cut my teeth as a ice/mix climber in
Provo Canyon, Utah, so this stands out
as a very special place. I lived in Ouray,
Colorado last winter and thought this
is a place I could live and climb in
for sure.
Accomplishments in climbing?
In the realm
of first ascents I would have to say that
Utah stands out. I have put up routes
in Santaquin Canyon, Provo Canyon, North
Fork, and South fork. The routes have
gone as single and multi-pitch, sport
and trad, to easy and hard. Sending a
possible route in a day is the best.
My most memorable F.A.s were a few cave
routes I put up as I was seeing videos
and pictures of the
mix
scene taking off. The routes were at my limit and
I was hungry to break through to the next level.
Later climbing routes of the similar rating
I was jacked to realize that it was vizualizing
that inspired me. Among my first ascents
I will list a few that were special:
Moondance M10, Spygame M9, Spoiled Rotten
M8+, and A Grands Frais (P1) M5 (P2)
M7. The past two seasons I have competed
in Ouray. 2007 4th (Men's) 5th overall
2006 11th overall.
Describe your favorite day of climbing?
A
blubird day, 34 degrees, fresh skiff of
snow on the trees, strong headspace,
good partner, and a interesting objective.
Who inspires you?
Any climber who is concerned
with style, asthetics, and pushing their
limits. I almost forgot that I really
enjoy a
sense of humor and a positive
attitude.
Favorite piece of BD equipment and why?
Black Diamond ice tools are absolutley
the best! I have trusted my life to the
ice tools for some years and believe they
strike a perfect balance between design,
function, versatility, and weight.
Training techniques for climbing?
Climbing
is great training for climbing! I have
been known to use special training exercises
for ice and mix, I can perform them almost
anywhere: jungle gyms, underneath decks.
door frames, under stairwells, and inverted
ladders. I will also train indoors for
rock.
Goals you have for the future?
I would
like to continue progress in the disciplines
of ice-
mix and on the rock with crack
and face. I find it to be extra challenging
to be involved and trying to progress
in all those disciplines, I would have
it no other way!
Describe the perfect climbing trip?
A
great climbing trip is one with a great
location, fun partners, great climbing,
and good weather...and sending!
What are you listening to right now on
your iPod?
Techno remix of "Man of Constant Sorrow."
The most recent book that
you really liked or what are you reading
right now?
The answer is the
same for both questions, Thinking Body,
Dancing Mind. The book is a constant
read because it covers so many topics to
develop.
