20 Questions
Describe your climbing background:
I have now moved from Bern to Reichenbach in the Bernese Oberland. It is much better to stay near the mountains instead of spending the whole day in the smog of the city. The place where climbers meet in our area is Interlaken. There are a lot of sympathetic and strong climbers around and in this scene, I feel really comfortable.

Was there a big breakthrough or defining moment for you?
The first time I won the qualification round in a bouldering World Cup—not only a big surprise but at the same time a really great experience, which made me feel the right way.

What are you up to when you’re not climbing?
I just finished my studies as a medical microbiology and immunology scientist. Therefore I did a lot of laboratory work in the past year. Right now I am helping to renovate an old house, which belongs to the family.

Who or what inspires you?
All kinds of people who are motivated and practice something with all their passion and energy—it doesn’t matter what they do whether it’s science or some kind of sport.

Care to comment on: pre-clipping more than one draw on sport routes or pre-placed gear on trad routes, chipping/comfortizing holds, glue vs. no glue?
I don’t care about these things as long as they don’t affect the people who practice it. Chipping holds is another thing—it affects everybody and for me it seems clear that it is a big sin to do this.

What are your future plans or goals in climbing?
Having fun and always try to improve.
